Today your journey takes you on one of the world's most spectacular train rides from Oslo to Bergen, over the breathtaking Hardanger Plateau and down into the heart of Norwegian Fjord Country in Bergen. You will arrive in Bergen in the afternoon and have leisure time to visit the sights of "the City of Seven Mountains," such as Bryggen and the Hanseatic Wharf (a UNESCO World Heritage Site).

Arrive in Bergen and make your way to your hotel.

What to See and Do

Oslo

  • Vigelandsparken Sculpture Park: The 80-acre Vigelandsparken Sculpture Park in western Oslo features 212 sculptures by Gustav Vigeland. Every year over one million locals and tourists visit the park, which is always open.
  • The Norwegian Opera & Ballet: The marble and glass building in Bjørvika features award-winning architecture and world-class opera and ballet performances. The Opera House is open to the public, and walking on the roof is a popular activity.
  • Holmenkollen: The famous Holmenkollen Ski Jump was recently rebuilt. The new state-of-the-art ski jump features the world's oldest Ski Museum and an observation deck with panoramic views of the city.
  • Akershus Fortress: Oslo's rich history is on display in the grand buildings and museums at this 13th-century fortress in the city center. The fortress is also a popular recreational area with great harbour views.
  • Viking Ship Museum: The world's two best-preserved Viking ships from the 9th century are on display at the Viking Ship Museum on the Bygdøy peninsula, which also shows Viking tools, sledges, a horse cart and wood carvings.
  • The National gallery with Munch: The National Gallery is home to Norway's largest public collection of paintings, drawings and sculptures. Most of the art is pre-1950, and central attractions include The Scream and Madonna by Edvard Munch.
  • Natural History Museum: The Natural History Museum complex in eastern Oslo houses the Botanical Garden, the Zoological Museum and the Mineralogical-Geological Museum in separate museums. Surrounding the museums is the Botanical Garden, with 7,500 plant species from around the world.
  • TusenFryd: Norway's biggest amusement park features over 30 attractions, including several rollercoasters, children's rides and a water park. Open from April to October, the park is located just 20 minutes south of Oslo.
  • Fram Museum: The Fram Museum houses the world's most famous polar ship, Fram. Visitors can go on board the ship and see how Norway's polar explorers lived and survived in the coldest places on earth over 100 years ago.
  • Norwegian Museum of Science, Technology and Medicine: Over 20 permanent and temporary exhibitions are on display at the Norwegian Museum of Science, Technology and Medicine in northern Oslo. Popular with children, the museum offers many fun and educational activities.

Bergen

  • Bergen Aquarium: Meet famous local personalities like Snorre, Vitus and Amalie. Experience the great atmosphere created by the young and old citizens of Bergen who keep coming back to say hello to the animals - and to meet each other. Since 1960, the aquarium has formed a vibrant part of our local identity.
  • Bryggen in Bergen: The very first buildings in Bergen were alongside the harbour called Bryggen. The old Hanseatic wharf is architecturally unique and is included on UNESCO's list of world heritage of history and culture.
  • The Exhibition at Vilvite: An interactive visitor centre – for the whole family! VilVite is a science centre where the whole family can discover more than 100 different exhibits. Science show and 3D film at weekends and during school holidays. Café and science shop.
  • Fish Market: The picturesque and lively Fish Market in Bergen is one of Norway's most visited outdoors markets and has a charming location in the heart of the city between the fjords and Bergen's 7 mountains. The Fish Market also sells fruit, vegetables, flowers, handicrafts and souvenirs.
  • Floibanen Funicular: An 8-minute ride to the top of Mount Fløyen (altitude 320 m). Runs every half hour, every 15 minutes if necessary. A magnificent view over Bergen and the suburbs. Ideal for mountain walks. Children's playground available and a souvenir shop open all year.
  • Kode - The Art Museums of Bergen: Extensive collection of art and design. Experience the masterpieces by Edvard Munch, Nikolai Astrup, Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee and J. C. Dahl or visit the unique exhibition "the Silver Treasure".
  • The Hanseatic Museum and Schotstuene - Museum Vest: One of the oldest and best preserved wooden buildings in Bergen, furnished in 18th century style to provide an intimate picture of the life of a Hanseatic merchant.
  • Troldhaugen home of composer Edvard Grieg: The home of composer Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) and his wife Nina. Grieg lived here for 22 years and composed many of his best-known works in the little garden hut. Also visit the cliff-hewn tomb where he was buried, the concert hall "Troldsalen" and the museum.
  • Ulriken643: The Unriken643 Panoramic Tour takes you by cable car to the highest of Bergen’s famous ‘Seven Mountains’. The tour takes you to spectacular scenery and mountain terrain 643 metres above the city streets.
